Kaipūpū Pest Report
Kaipūpū has had an incredible achievement by removing predators. Since we finished a bait station operation in December 2020, we have kept rat numbers low across Kaipūpū. Monitoring and trapping are so important to keep pest numbers down and catch any new rats as they enter Kaipūpū.
We have a truly incredible team of volunteers who put in so much work to ensure our pest numbers stay down, allowing native birds and plants to flourish. Seeing how low the catch number are is so rewarding and makes all that work worth while.
We have an incredible group of volunteers and members, with their fantastic support we have been able to achieve amazing results keeping our pests numbers down.

Our mice numbers have followed the weather and food sauces as with normal years. With a large peak in autumn, as Mice made the most of the end of summer food availability. Once winter come and the days got colder many mice naturally die off. Those left are caught by our mice traps which offer delicious Pics peanut butter refreshed fortnightly. Their numbers have begun to grow slightly as summer arrives, because we kept so well on top of them this winter, we have not seen a sharp rise in their population that some sanctuaries see.
